A day as a policeman
It was during my engineering days actually when this incident happened to me and it would remain untold to anybody in this world till I finally decided to inform the public about my responsibility as a citizen (police) of India and the efficacy of the Indian Police System.
I was on the way home from college as I decided to bunk classes, that was a common story of every engineer like me who really do not love theories much . I was not felling like attending classes that day . I was walking alone in the bus stop thinking about my Btech project that was supposed to be taken up shortly. I was just on a jeans and t-shirt as usual and was with my casual attitude. Actually walking on the wrong side of the road ignoring the traffic system which most of the proud Indians like me feel pride in doing.........
Suddenly I spotted a police jeep standing on a by-lane.And I was stunned and my heart started trembling with fear when the police officer sitting in the van called me up. I thought at that instant the only reason he could call me was may be some of my enemies complained something about me , then in the next second I realized that I was on the wrong side of the road, so I would be fined and i mentally prepared for accepting the sin I committed, i would tell him sorry and how to make least sum of money go out of my pocket...for a fine that would be imposed on me for breaking the traffic rules of my country.
But inspector X (putting the name secret on request) and his team were waiting with a new adventure for me. The moment I went to him,he politely said "Sir, Can you help me and my team for an operation as an undercover agent.", I thought for a while because I had never seen a policeman addressing me as sir before and nobody addressed me as a sir before that. Like common public I had a fear in mind but somehow I felt, my sixth sense said Mr. X was a good person and he actually needed my help to crack down a criminal or a group of criminals who are involved in a fake note racket.
I replied "Yes, but will it be late because then it would not be possible."Inspector X replied that it would be over by 2-3 hours if the plan and the information by his informers were in place. I climbed the jeep and the jeep started to move. Inspector X clearly started to explain me the plan. Being on a police jeep was a great experience and that too when you are actually going to crack a crime and help your legal system perform, it is not an opportunity every citizen of my country gets.......I was feeling a sense of pride as I was working for what I had a dream in my eyes....be a police officer to protect my society but somehow that did not happen due to the circumstances........
Officer X was a very smart and handsome man and all his team members( 4 of them)were in casual dress. officer X gave me the plan, we had to track down a group of social monsters who were basically involved in a racket that was making fake notes and were being backed by some bank employees. So I had to be a part of the plan. I listened the plan very carefully and then was ready for the real life adventure of my life, the first one and probably the unique of it's kind.....an opportunity of a lifetime.........we proceeded towards Rajarhat, kolkata. There was a shabby tea stall actually. I was supposed to handover a bag of real notes instead of a bag of fake notes to a person who will be coming to the stall. All was preplanned but for me it was an extempore I have never attempted before.......
Officer X and his team were waiting at a distance. A man came in a motorcycle. He had a laptop bag with him. He stopped his bike in front of the stall and asked me the time and I replied. A little nervousness was coming up in me because I was predicting an encounter in my mind as I have seen in movies. I opened the chain of my bag a bit and closed it, and I was not sure whether this man was the man I was supposed to catch....he approached me then and gave me the laptop bag, opened it and if it contained notes I was supposed to raise my hand and officer X and his team would actually take over him and arrest him. I found the notes and asked him how much is there..He replied. "150 for every real 100" . I just tracked the man and raised my hand within a fraction Officer X and his men came in and arrested that man, and he was lifted to the jeep handcuffed. I congratulated Inspector X for the brilliant trap he set and he thanked me.......my first mission a civilian policeman was now a success and I had actually saved around Rs. 50 lakhs for my motherland..............
He was taken in the jeep by his men and Mr. X dropped me to the college in the bike the man brought, I was so motivated I decided to tell my friends but then actually thought it was not worth, they may say I am drunk and so am fooling around....engineers do not believe something very quickly without a reason...................so the happiness for the day was buried inside me but then the next day the daily newspaper came........It had the news of Officer X catching a fake note racket.......with his name and his team and Sir X had specially thanked the civilian volunteer who had helped him crack the case whose name was kept secret due to security reasons...........that day I understood that life is only not about the history that is written in the books.......some stories are untold forever.............
